Look Again is my first attempt at a high fidelity Unreal Engine game. It’s set around a gothic cathedral and involves the player being sent in to investigate the strange mutations the priests there underwent after interacting with the crater formed by an extraterrestrial meteor.
The game is a short experience, clocking in at around 20-25 minutes of playtime. The gameplay involves observing the mutated priests who are only visible through an old recorder and using that as a tool to neutralize them. There are several colored channels on the recorder and some of the mutated monsters are only visible on those channels. Managing several different “levels” that the enemies operate on can be an unnerving and intriguing gameplay formula.
The game has a full albeit simple and short narrative with tidbits of world-building, all of which is voice acted!
This game gave me a comprehensive understanding about a lot of the features within Unreal Engine which included it’s scripting system, foliage and landscapes, Metahumans, animation rigging, lighting, UMG, and audio direction.
